United Methodist Homes of New Jersey
Award Received: Gold
Challenges: The previous publication, titled Spectrum, was viewed (as per survey data) to represent the Homes Foundation, the fundraising arm of the corporate entity, United Methodist Homes. The managing board, therefore, was charged to create an entirely new external newsletter representing our brand and the organization as a whole. The elements considered in overcoming the general perception and achieving our goals included a name, themes, features, design, length, and frequency.
Description: Premiere redesigned, tri-annual, 12-page, external nonprofit organization newsletter.
Strategy: To update the external newsletter to effectively reflect the brand and interest a broad audience.
Tactic: We formed a managing board for the publication with personnel representing different functional areas to achieve a broad voice. The board brainstormed names, designs and other essential details of the premiere issue. They now meet on an ongoing basis to manage the publication and write features.
Results: First and foremost, The Merz Group submitted engage and won a Gold Aster Award! The general antidotal feedback was extremely favorable. “The cover really made me want to read it. I love the senior woman on the cover. I like the recipe feature.” Above all qualitative results, the new design effectively represents the organization globally and is consistent with our brand.
